Every day hundreds, sometimes thousands, of pilgrims arrive in Santiago de Compostella in Spain. After walking the route (just the part in Spain is more than 800 km.) their first port of call is the Cathedral. This photo depicts a part of the ritual that pilgrims follow upon arrival. They go to this particular pillar and put their hand on this particular spot. When observing this I was thinking how many millions of hands had been there, wearing away the marble. All those people had hopes when they started on their pilgrimage and with this shot I hope to convey the intensity of feeling that I sensed.
